16 Personalities of MBTI and Career Opportunities

Posted by Thanh Le on Apr 17, 2015 10:20:00 AM

The theory of psychological types was introduced in the 1920s by Carl G. Jung. The MBTI tool was developed in the 1940s by Isabel Briggs Myers and the original research was done in the 1940s and '50s. The essence of the theory is developed on the basis of random variation in behaviour which, through studies and research, is proven to be actually consistent.

Millions of people worldwide have taken the MBTI each year since its first publication in 1962. The MBTI is well-known for its validity and reliability by which it measures what it states it does and the results are the same when taken more than once. Note however it measures what it states it does, issues arise where the MBTI is used for things it was never designed to do or things specifically stated that it does not do.

The goal of knowing about personality type is to understand and appreciate differences between people. As all types are equal, there is no best type.

The MBTI should NOT be used for recruitment as it is sort for preferences and does not measure trait, ability, or character. The MBTI does not compare your results to those of other people; it does not evaluate you by comparing you to any normal or pathological standard, which is the purpose of recruitment. The MBTI is not normed. It is simply a tool to discover yourself as career orientation.

The career example is an informational guide which does not comprise a complete analysis of ideal careers for individuals, and does not guarantee success or failure at any occupation. Whether you're a young adult trying to find your place in the world or just trying to find out if you're moving along the right path, it's important to understand yourself which will impact your likeliness to succeed or fail at various careers. It's equally important to understand what is really important to you. When armed with an understanding of your strengths and weaknesses, and an awareness of what you truly value, you are in an excellent position to pick a career which you will find rewarding.
